A Complete Lockdown In Several Provinces Of Pakistan From May 8 To May 15

A media report said on Thursday that the administrations of different provinces like Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and PoK have announced to enforce a complete lockdown in their respective regions. The lockdown will be from May 8 to 15 to contain the spread of coronavirus during the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays in Pakistan.

The announcements came across as the country is witness to the continuous tremendous surge in the number of coronaviruses despite the measures being taken by the government.

In Punjab During the eight-day lockdown the public transport, tourist destinations, business, parks, shopping malls, and markets will remain closed.

Moreover, police, Rangers, and Army personnel will be deployed in the province in line with the decision of the NCOC to ensure the implementation of lockdown during the Eid holidays.

However, the medical stores, pharmacies, Covid-19 vaccination centers, petrol pumps, small grocery stores, dairy, food takeaways, vegetable fruit shops, and meat shops will remain open during the lockdown.

Notices regarding the lockdowns were also issued by the administration of other provinces Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, and PoK.

Planning Minister of NCOC Asad Umar had said recently that stricter precautionary measures along with an expanded vaccination drive have had an optimistic impact.

The govt. has taken this step to control the spread of this pandemic. According to the current media report, so far over 18,537 COVID-19 deaths have been reported in Pakistan since the beginning of the pandemic last year.  While the number of active Covid-19 cases in Pakistan is 845,833 as of May 5.
